RetroGameSpace is curated by a small editorial team of long-time emulation enthusiasts who write the guides, vet the platform-compatibility data, and review every published article. Meet the team →
Project Nature
RetroGameSpace is a personal technical-research project maintained on a best-effort basis by an independent individual out of curiosity for retro gaming, browser-based emulation, and edge-compute infrastructure. It is not a registered company, not a registered business, and not a commercial service. There are no investors, no employees, no support desk, and no commitment to acquire users. No service-level agreement is offered or implied: availability, performance, data integrity, and long-term continuity are all explicitly not guaranteed. The project may be reduced in scope, paused, or shut down in whole or in part at any time, with or without notice.
Non-Commercial Statement
RetroGameSpace does not charge users for anything. There is no paywall, no subscription, no premium tier, no donation channel, no merchandise, and no acceptance of payment in exchange for access to game resources. Where the site links to other projects or websites, such links are non-commercial cross-references published for informational or technical-curiosity reasons only; they do not constitute paid placement, affiliate marketing, or an endorsement of the linked party in any direction.
Educational and Research Purpose
The primary purpose of this project is to study and demonstrate several public technologies: WebAssembly-based in-browser emulators (notably EmulatorJS), short-lived edge-cache reverse proxies on serverless platforms, internationalisation and accessibility patterns for static sites, and the documentation and indexing of early electronic-game history as cultural heritage. All information presented and all material reachable through the service is provided for personal study, technical research, software-history archaeology, and educational purposes.
Supported Platforms
We support games from a wide range of classic consoles including NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Sega Mega Drive, Arcade, and more.
Technology
Games are emulated directly in your browser using EmulatorJS, an open-source emulator framework. No plugins or additional software required.
How RetroGameSpace Sources Games
RetroGameSpace operates as a transient caching reverse-proxy. Game files are fetched on demand from publicly accessible third-party archives (primarily the Internet Archive), passed through to your browser, and held in a short-lived edge cache (≤24 hours) for performance. We do not upload, seed, mirror, redistribute, or host first-party copies of any ROM, BIOS or copyrighted game asset on storage we control.
