Save file

Aussi appelé: in-game save , save files , sram , srm , battery save

A save file (or "in-game save") is the file the original cartridge / disc would have written to its battery-backed SRAM, memory card, or save chip. The emulator emulates that storage and persists it as a small (.sav / .srm / .mcr) file. Save files are PORTABLE: a SNES .srm written by snes9x usually loads cleanly into bsnes or RetroArch because the SRAM layout is part of the original hardware spec, not the emulator implementation.
