Green Beret is a side-scrolling action game released in 1980 by Irem for arcades. Players control a soldier tasked with infiltrating enemy territory across multiple stages, including a prison camp, a harbor, and an airfield. The objective in each stage is to reach the end while defeating enemy soldiers using a knife as the primary weapon. Additional weapons such as flamethrowers, bazookas, and grenades can be picked up from fallen enemies. Combat requires timing and positioning, as enemies attack in waves from both directions. The game supports two-player simultaneous play, allowing cooperative action. Each stage culminates in a more intense enemy assault before the player can advance. The game was later ported to home computers and consoles under various titles.
