Turbo
Turbo is a racing arcade game released by Sega in 1981. Players control a sports car viewed from a behind-the-vehicle perspective, driving along a continuously scrolling road while avoiding oncoming traffic and passing slower vehicles. The objective is to reach checkpoint goals within a time limit to continue play. The game features a steering wheel, accelerator pedal, and gear shifter as physical controls, giving it a realistic driving cabinet setup. Environmental variety includes road sections with snow, fog, tunnels, and day-to-night transitions, adding visual challenge. Turbo was notable for its scaling sprite technology, which gave moving vehicles a convincing sense of depth and speed. The player earns points by overtaking cars and must maintain pace against a required pass count per stage.
