Gauntlet is an action dungeon-crawler developed by Tengen and released in 1988 for the NES. Players choose from four character classes—Warrior, Wizard, Elf, or Valkyrie—each with unique attributes and attack styles. The gameplay centers on navigating isometric-view dungeon levels filled with enemies, collecting treasure, and solving simple puzzles. Combat is real-time, with players wielding weapons and magical attacks to defeat waves of enemies. Two players can cooperate simultaneously through the same levels, making tactical positioning essential. Each character has health points that steadily drain unless healing potions are collected. The game features key-locked doors, treasure chests, and various enemy types that become progressively harder. Levels require exploration and strategic navigation to locate the exit and progress further. Death results in losing a life, with a limited number of continues available.
