Rainbow Islands

Screenshots

The title screen features a large rainbow-shaped logo with "RAINBOW ISLANDS" in colorful letters arching across it, centered on a black background. Above the rainbow are score displays showing "100" on the left, "100000" in red in the center, and "200" on the right, each with coin icons. Below the logo appears "THE STORY OF BUBBLE BOBBLE 2" in smaller text. At the bottom, copyright text reads "TAITO" followed by "© TAITO CORPORATION 1987" and "ALL RIGHTS RESERVED," with "CREDIT" visible in the lower right corner. The overall art style uses bright, pixelated sprite graphics typical of 1980s arcade hardware.

Rainbow Islands is an arcade platformer released by Taito Corporation in 1987 and a sequel to Bubble Bobble. Players control Bubby, who must climb vertically scrolling stages by creating rainbows. These rainbows serve two purposes: they act as temporary platforms for reaching higher ground, and they can be dropped onto enemies to defeat them. Each of the seven main islands contains four rounds plus a boss encounter, with stages themed around environments like toy lands and monster zones. Collecting gems dropped by defeated enemies awards bonus points and power-ups. A rising flood at the bottom of each screen creates constant upward pressure, preventing players from lingering too long on any platform.
