Thunder Zone is an action arcade game released by Data East Corporation in 1991. Players take on the role of a soldier fighting through enemy-occupied territory in a top-down overhead shooter format. Armed with a machine gun and grenades, the player moves through multiple stages filled with enemy infantry, armored vehicles, and fortified positions. The game supports two-player simultaneous co-op, allowing two players to tackle the combat zones together. Controls use a joystick for movement and separate buttons for firing and throwing grenades. Enemy soldiers, tanks, and helicopters appear in increasing numbers across stages, and players must reach and defeat end-level bosses to progress. The cabinet featured bold military-themed artwork consistent with the run-and-gun style popular in early 1990s arcades.
