Mortal Kombat, developed by Probe Software in 1993, brings the arcade fighting game to Sega's Game Gear handheld. Players select from a roster of martial artists and supernatural fighters, battling opponents in a tournament-style ladder. The game features digitized character sprites and the series' signature fatality moves, along with blood and violence that sparked controversy in the original arcade release. Each fighter has unique special attacks and fatal animations. Combat uses standard fighting game controls executed through the Game Gear buttons. Single-player mode progresses through increasingly difficult opponents before the final boss encounter. Two-player mode enables direct head-to-head battles.
