ActRaiser
ActRaiser is a hybrid action and city-building game developed by Quintet in 1991 for the Super Nintendo. The gameplay alternates between two distinct modes. In action stages, the player controls an angel character who fights through six different regions, wielding a sword and magic projectiles to defeat enemies and bosses. Between action sequences, the game shifts to an overhead city-building phase where the player expands civilizations using construction tools and magic spells. The angel can reshape terrain and encourage population growth. Each region must be fully developed before progressing to the next. The game's six worlds feature different environmental themes with steadily increasing enemy difficulty. Controls follow standard SNES configuration, with sword attacks and magic assigned to individual buttons. This dual-mode structure distinguishes ActRaiser from typical action games of the era.
