Sea Wolf

Screenshots1 / 2

A black screen displays white pixelated text reading 'GAME OVER' at the top center. Below that, three lines of text appear on the right side: 'INSERT COIN' in the upper right, 'HIGH SCORE' on the lower left, 'YOUR SCORE' in the center, and '000' beneath it. The text uses a simple block font typical of 1970s arcade displays against the solid black background.

Sea Wolf is a 1-player action arcade game released by Midway in 1976. The player takes the role of a submarine commander, looking through a periscope-style viewscreen to target and torpedo enemy ships passing across the screen. The control setup uses a periscope handle that the player physically rotates left or right to aim, then fires torpedoes using a trigger mechanism. Ships move at varying speeds, and obstacles such as mines can block torpedoes mid-flight. The game operates on a timed format, with players earning extra time by sinking enough ships before the clock runs out. Scoring is based on the number and type of vessels destroyed. Sea Wolf was one of the earliest arcade games to use this submarine shooter format.
